A total of 16 teams have competed in the annual Charity Dragon Boat Regatta on the waters of Lake Windermere.
Low Wood Bay Resort Hotel & Marina played host to the Paddlers for Life UK event to raise awareness of the potential to live well following a diagnosis of cancer.
Following a spectacular and inspiring mass warm up, crews of paddlers competed for a series of beautiful glass cut trophies, with the top performers emerging from five award categories as follows:
Best team spirit – Breast Express (for paddling to better understand the experience and and introduce the event to new patients)
Best dressed team – GSK Fire Dragons (for their Indian themed pink and white feathered headdresses and matching outfits)
Fastest time – Gore Blimey (53 seconds over the 200m course)
Champions – Gore Blimey (winner of the grand final race)
Overall winners – Ballet Bouncers (accumulated categories score of 49/60).
Ben Berry from English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues says: “It was great to see so many teams competing, from as far afield as Preston and Manchester, together with local boats filled with both health professionals and cancer patients paddling against each other to raise money for charity.
“A big thank you is due to all those who took part and helped to make it all happen. The event has doubled in size since last year and we hope its growth and success continues.”
